Course Overview  

Introduction
This hands-on workshop is based on your project. Bringing together the Project Board and core project team, with key business users, the workshop will orientate the project, ensure understanding and buy-in to all the roles, focus the project’s objectives and start the process of planning, risks and stakeholder management.

In short, it is a kick-start! This is for a new Project Board/Team focusing on getting things set up and started on the right foot.

Note: this course needs some initial preparation and participation from user and IT personnel (usually ½ - 1 day) to understand the project, issues and the clients way of working.

Objectives
1) to orientate and perform a formal start to your project.
2) to a gree project roles and reponsibilities and obtain buy-in.
3) to ensure the Project Board and key stakeholders agree the objectives and vision of the project.
4) to allow the Project Team to understand the stakeholder vision.
5) to identify key risks, issues and benefits of the project.

On completion delegates will:
Understand the purpose and objectives for the project
Have knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of the whole team
Be working together as a productive, multi-skilled team
Have real-world project deliverables

Content
An initial session with the Project Board and the team ensures the Project Direction, roles and responsibilities are understood by all. This may be followed by a facilitated Risk, Benefits and/or Communications workshop as agreed with the client. This varies, depending on the project and client’s needs and will be agreed during the preparation day. However it is likely to include some of the following:

Envisioning & objective setting
Benefits Analysis techniques
Scoping
Risk Identification
Stakeholder analysis

Audience
The core project board (authorities) and team – including key business users – for the project in question. The aim is to focus on the project, so it is usually not appropriate to mix the audience across several projects.

It is essential that the project sponsor, senior business and technical managers are present along with the Project Manager, key business users and as much of the project team as is available.

Duration and Style
A facilitated workshop with an initial tutor led briefing and will be very inter-active and require some decision making on the day.
